Five area teams drop regular season finales

GREENWICH — The South Central girls basketball team played from behind throughout Thursday's 43-37 loss to Mapleton in the Firelands Conference and regular season finale for both teams. The Trojans — who trailed 14-9 after one quarter and 26-15 at halftime — fell to 16-6 overall and 12-2 in the FC. Mapleton ends at 14-8 overall and 10-4 in the FC. In Thursday's loss, Grace Lamoreaux scored 16 points for South Central. Kendyl Beverly finished with 13 points and Angela Williams added seven. South Central is off for the next nine days. It is the No. 3 seed in the Division IV Willard district and awaits the winner of Crestline and Seneca East in a sectional championship game at 7 p.m. on Feb. 24. Reserve 26 COLLINS — The Big Red finished the regular season with a double-digit win over the host Roughriders on Thursday. Plymouth closes with a 13-9 overall record, including 8-6 in the FC. Western — which still visits league champion New London (17-4, 13-0) on Saturday — fell to 4-15 and 3-10. Plymouth is the No. 6 seed in the Willard district and visits No. 5 Monroeville (14-8, 7-7) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a sectional semifinal. The away team won both regular season meetings, including the Big Red's 41-38 overtime win on Dec. 9 at Monroeville. Crestview 56, St. Paul 38 OLIVESBURG — The Flyers concluded the regular season at 1-21 overall and 0-14 in the FC following Thursday's loss to the host Cougars. Crestview (4-18, 3-11) used a 16-3 scoring edge in the second quarter to pull away in the 18-point win. Chloe Smith scored a game-high 22 points for St. Paul, which hosts St. Mary Central Catholic (0-22) on Wednesday in a Div. IV sectional semifinal. ST. The Flashes entertain No. 9 Edison (8-14) in a third meeting between the SBC Bay Division teams on Thursday (Feb. 22). The Flashes won both regular season games by scores of 48-33 and 53-46.
