Hipp's 35 leads WR past New London

COLLINS — The Western Reserve boys basketball team won its fifth straight game with Thursday's 71-60 win over visiting New London in a Firelands Conference matchup. Chase Hipp continued his recent hot streak with a game and career-high 35 points for the Roughriders, who improved to 10-5 overall and 7-3 in the FC. Hipp was 11-of-22 from the field and 9-of-11 at the free-throw line. Also for Western, Brexton Fraelich had 11 points and 10 rebounds. New London (1-16, 1-11) got 18 points from Aiden Ruggles, while Brody Sword added 15 and Gage Carroll scored 10. Gabe Howell again paced the Eagles, as he scored 11 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter. Landon Stein and Derek Ackerman each added eight points for Monroeville, which is off until it hosts St. Paul (12-5, 9-1) on Feb. 16. South Central (2-16, 0-10) was paced by Gunner Ray with 17 points, while Bryan Chaffee and Wes June each scored 10 points. June added six assists and four rebounds.
