Norwalk High School band prepares for winter concert

NORWALK — The Norwalk High School Band will present its annual winter concert on Wednesday, Feb. 21 in the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center at Norwalk High School. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature the concert band under the direction of Melissa d'Aliberti, and the wind ensemble under the direction of Will Kish. The band will perform music written by David Holsinger, Sarah Smith, Jorge Vargas, Randall Standridge, Charles Carter, Anton Bruckner and F. E. Bigelow. "The music we choose is curricular," Kish said. "It's designed because of skills that it teaches the musicians, it doesn't really have a theme. Some schools do that but we typically don't." Admission and parking for all Norwalk High School concerts is free, and it is a non-ticketed event. Kish noted that the students are excited about the concert, and are beginning to finalize plans for the performance. "With about a week and a half out, we are to the point where we are fine-tuning things, just running through it and working on balanced blends, tuning, things like that." This date is different from what appears on the calendars mailed out from the school district this fall. The change was made to accommodate conflicting events.
