Monroeville Hall of Fame inductee announced

Marc Jones has been named to the Monroeville Community Hall of Fame. Jones was born to Doug and Rolande Jones of Monroeville in 1954 and graduated from Monroeville High School in 1973. He is one of ten children all of whom attended MHS. He married his high school sweetheart Marty Kluding in 1972, who was a St. Paul Flyer, Monroeville's biggest rival. Jones and his wife went on to have three children, Jill (class of 1991), Brett (class of 1993), and Brian (class of 1996), all MHS graduates. Jill has two sons, Cooper and Baron, and resides in Avon. Brett has two children, Marc and daughter Remni, and lives in Monroeville. Brett shares this honor with his dad as he, too, is a member of the Hall of Fame, inducted in 2021. Brian is married to Melissa and they have two sons, Ben and Zeke, and they also live in Monroeville. While at MHS, Jones was involved in FFA, attended Ehove, and even wrestled a real live bear for a charity event. But Jones' athletic ability is where he shined. He wrestled and lettered all four years, but football proved to be his true love. Jones was a starter all four years on the football team and earned all four letters. As a junior, Jones was named the All-Firelands Conference Defensive Tackle of the Year. In addition to his defensive domination, he was also a force on offense earning first place in the Firelands Conference for average yards per carry and was third in scoring. As a senior, Jones was both All-Firelands Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the All-Firelands Conference Defensive Tackle. Jones continued his football career at the University of Toledo, where he was a walk-on and quickly earned his starting roster spot. For those efforts, he was awarded the Outstanding Freshman Player of the Year for the Rockets. Jones decided to leave college and football behind to raise his family and see all three of his children graduate from Monroeville and attend college. His daughter Jill attended Heidelberg University where she played volleyball and basketball. His boys, Brett and Brian, both attended the University of Findlay. Brett played football and was a member of a two-time national championship team. Jones was a Monroeville City Council member from 1984-1988, doing his part to make Monroeville one of the premier small villages to raise a family. He resigned from his position when the family moved out of the city limits to the country. Jones was a community man, always volunteering his services or willing to help anyone in need. He was the master of ceremonies for many years at the Monroeville Community Athletic League (boosters) reverse raffle events and helped with improvement projects at the high school and Marsh Field. Jones was a volunteer fireman for many years for the village. He was a staple at the Huron County Fair year after year, volunteering with the youth and 4-H groups along with being active on the Huron County Fair Board. All three of his children were in 4-H. In addition, he was also active in his church community at St. Alphonsus, where he was an usher. Sadly, Jones passed away in 1997 at 42, losing his battle with cancer. That same year a tree was planted in his honor at Marsh Field. In October 2019, 22 years later, Jones was recognized as the "12th Man." If he were alive today, he would be 69 and would be honored and humbled to receive such recognition and still volunteer his services and time to Monroeville's wonderful community. Our family is honored to be part of such a wonderful experience and very grateful to keep Jones' spirit alive.
