3 overdoses in Huron County in the last 24 hours

NORWALK — An overdose spike alert has been issued for Huron County. There have been three overdoses in the county in the past 24 hours, according to Huron County Board of Mental Health and Addiction Services executive director Kristen Cardone. It was not immediately known if any of the three overdoses resulted in deaths, but it is believed that those three people all had naloxone administered. Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. "Please inform individuals within your organization that need to be aware," Cardone wrote in an email. "We ask that you disseminate this information on public platforms along with a list of harm reduction locations." According to the National Institutes of Health, harm reduction helps people who use drugs avoid negative effects, like infection or overdose. "If you are in need of naloxone for your staff, please contact one of the locations on the harm reduction list," Cardone wrote.
