Newton Terrace Apartments have new owners

CRS Investment Properties of Norwalk is now the new owner of the beleaguered Newton Terrace Apartments. The apartments have been a frequent topic of discussion at Norwalk City Council meetings over the last year. Council members have been urging city administration officials to get involved and work with owners to make improvements. However, ownership was tied up in a lawsuit over the last several months. But now the property has been taken over by new ownership and the new owners say they are going to start making improvements. "We've already got our punch-list of things we need to do," said CRS Investment Properties office manager Julianne Kirby. The apartment complex is about a third full, she said. "The interior is going to be rehabbed. We're starting with the worst ones first," Kirby said. CRS Investment Properties owns rental properties in Norwalk and Sandusky. Kirby said her company is not a slum lord. "We're not slum landlords," she said, adding "We take a lot of pride in our properties." Among the improvements the company is going to make include rehabbing the interior, putting a new roof each of the buildings, and cleaning up the exterior of the property, including drainage issues in the parking lot. She also said they were thinking about giving the property a new name. "One of the things we've always done is try to make a nice home for people," she said. "There will be a lot of things happening in the next couple months."
