Assistant Fire Chief sworn in

Norwalk's new assistant fire chief Kevin McGraw said he's excited to get started in his new role. "It's an honor to come to a tradition-rich department and continue my career in a place like this," McGraw said before being sworn in by Norwalk Mayor Dave Light Tuesday morning. Dozens of family members, friends, and officers from the Sandusky Fire Department as well as the Norwalk's police and fire departments attended the swearing in ceremony. McGraw worked at the Sandusky Fire Department for 17 years before being picked as Norwalk's new assistant fire chief. Most recently, McGraw worked as a lieutenant for the Sandusky Fire Department. After he was selected, McGraw said he applied for the job because it was an opportunity for career advancement and will also allow him to spend more time with his family. "This job allows me the opportunity to spend more time with my family, but also stay in firefighting," he said. As a lieutenant in Sandusky, McGraw also served as a watch officer, outside station officer, is involved with EMS operations, is a member of the city and department health and safety committee, and is the number one shift dive supervisor. In addition, McGraw worked as a paramedic, hazardous material technician, a certified public safety scuba diver, a certified fire instructor, and a certified fire safety inspector. Also, McGraw worked as a paid on-call employee for the Huron Fire Department and as a fire program instructor at EHOVE Career Center. He got his education from Columbus State Community College and EHOVE Career Center.
