Antique store closing

NORWALK — The Creamettes Emporium antique store in uptown Norwalk is closing after a six-year run. The store's owner posted on Facebook that the last day to shop there will be Thursday, Nov. 30. "With heavy hearts, we have to announce that we will be closing The Creamettes Emporium down," according to store's post. "Unfortunately business is not running the way that we want. The antique business is showing us that it is time to retire with the economy the way that it is. We appreciate all of the amazing people that have come into the shop for the past six years." Customers were saddened by the news of the closure. "Sorry to hear that," Brian Barch wrote on the company's page. "I made it a point to come in and shop and found a couple treasures from 2,000 miles away. Thank you for giving it a go." Another commenter said she drove here from Lorain County to shop there. "Oh, no: My husband and I would drive over every six weeks from the Lorain area to make a day of it," Kelly Adams Moran wrote. They "would stop at your place for about three hours and then (go) to the Freight House pub and grill for dinner. We bought our antique Stewart cedar chest from there a few years ago." Several other people said they found treasures at Creamettes Emporium. "I've gotten lots of wonderful treasures here over the years," Kim Bradley posted. "I loved coming in and finding treasures. This is sad," Brittany Rose Kessler wrote. Shoppers at the store on Thursday afternoon also said they were disappointed the store was closing. "We've been coming here for years," said Dana Martin. "We live in LaGrange, and we come here all the time." Another customer, Sarah Stang, said she liked the "unique" finds that she could get at the store. "I don't know where else to go," Stang said. "This is probably the best antique store in the area." Still, one other customer chalked up the closing as part of the cycle of business. "I've been coming here a long time," Wiegand Wishner said. "But you know it happens. People get older. They want to retire. Times change. Something else will come up."
