Light: 'We're extremely humbled'

NORWALK — Incumbent Norwalk Mayor Dave Light outdistanced challenger Jeff Bertram Tuesday night to win re-election. Light captured 2,879 votes, or 56.85%, compared to 2,185 votes, or 43.15%, for Bertram. Turnout was 49.33% of the 10,486 total number of registered voters. Light, a Democrat, was elected to his second four-year term. "Well, we're extremely humbled," Light said Wednesday morning. "It's a very humbling experience. It's been a long nine months (the campaign) and we're ready to roll up our sleeves and get back to work. I think the people of Norwalk have spoken and I'm awfully grateful." Light also spoke about his goals for the next four years. "In the short term we want to see the amphitheater go up (at Veterans Memorial Lake Park)," Light said. That's going to be a beautiful addition to the city." He also said he'd like to see a hotel with a conference room come to Norwalk and is continuing to work on the city's housing shortage. Light also said he's going to continue working on some of the blighted properties that need renovations such as Newton Terrace apartments and Grand Avenue apartments. Bertram issued his congratulations to Light. "I congratulate Mayor Light on his victory and to wish him well in leading our city for the next four years. He ran a strong campaign and he deserves our respect and support," Bertram said. He also thanked his supporters. "I want to thank all of you who voted for me and who worked tirelessly to advance our conservative vision for Norwalk," Bertram said. "You are the backbone of our movement and I am deeply grateful for your trust and your dedication. You have shown that there is a strong demand for fiscal responsibility, public safety, and economic opportunity, in our city."
