Annual Thanksgiving dinner is back

NORWALK — Norwalk's annual community Thanksgiving meal is coming back this year. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to noon at Norwalk Catholic School's cafeteria off Milan Avenue. Thanksgiving dinners will be delivered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Once again hosting the annual Thanksgiving dinner event will be Skip and Patti Wilde and Dave and Robin Bleile. Last year, hundreds of meals were served on Thanksgiving Day thanks to the event's organizers and volunteers. "We have at least 150 deliveries ... 500-plus meals going out with those deliveries," organizer Skip Wilde said last year. "And I know we have carry-outs coming in. I know we will do at least 600 meals." Volunteers packed the cafeteria preparing the meals while others came in to deliver them. There were a total of 45 turkeys, 350 pounds of potatoes, and dozens of pies. The annual event seems to get bigger and better each year, but this year, Wilde expects to serve about the same number as they served last year. Wilde said people donate and volunteer for the Thanksgiving dinner because it makes them feel good. "I call this the giving season and giving helps people feel good about themselves. With all the craziness going on in our world it's nice to do something good," he said. The annual event has been going on for about 25 years.
