Norwalk tops Vermilion to win sectional

VERMILION — The Norwalk boys soccer team got its revenge. The Truckers — the No. 4 seed in their Northwest district — upset No. 2 Vermilion on the road Thursday night with a 3-1 win in a Division II sectional championship match at Vermilion High School. With the win, Norwalk improved to 11-7 overall and will face No. 5 Mansfield Senior (9-9) — which upset No. 3 Clear Fork — in a district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Shelby High School. The Truckers had lost to the Sailors, 2-0, on Sept. 20 at Contractors Stadium. In Thursday's win, Landon Ferkel, Juan Martinez and Jose Negrete scored goals for Norwalk. Ben Snyder had two assists and Negrete added one. The Truckers are in the district semifinal round for a third time in four years. They lost last-second matches to Ontario in 2020 and 2022. GIRLS SOCCER Edison 5, Northwood 2 MILAN — The Chargers (8-8-2) claimed a Div. III sectional title with Thursday's win over visiting Northwood. Amelia Chartrant scored four of the five goals, with Joy Jordan adding the other. Jordan had two assists, with Alaina Keegan and Julie Willgrube each adding one. Lydia McQuillen finished with 10 saves for the Chargers, who face No. 1-seed Eastwood (13-3-1) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Genoa.
