Berry's to reopen soon

NORWALK — Berry's Restaurant in Norwalk should be reopening soon, the restaurant's owner posted on Facebook. "I can finally with certainty say that, although I can't give you an exact date, it should not be much longer," Berry's owner Carlyn Wall posted on Facebook. "I still need to have the health department and building codes officials inspect and that will take a little time." She also addressed the question of why it has taken so long for Berry's to reopen. "There has been a lot of speculation as to why it has taken so long to open," Wall wrote. "The answer is simple. It has taken a long time because there was so much to do. This was a huge undertaking." "When I first walked through the doors of Berry's I could feel the history — it is such a beautiful building," Wall continued. "It is my hope that as a town we will continue to be able to enjoy it, celebrate good times, and keep Berry's open for another 75 years." She also talked about the work that has been going on inside the building. "I wanted to keep the historical beauty of the restaurant intact," she wrote. "Vintage hexagon tile was installed to replace the carpet, the booths have been reupholstered, the old sconces have new shades and the beautiful tin ceiling tiles have been repainted. There are new tables that you may have seen my husband and I working on if you have driven by on the weekends. We were outside sanding, staining them, and painting the old bases." "The kitchen is where a large amount of time was spent and the entire kitchen now has floor-to-ceiling tile," Wall continued. "I'm hoping a beautiful kitchen will attract a talented cook." She also talked about the food that will be served when the restaurant reopens. "Berry's on Main is not going to be a steakhouse," she wrote. "We will have a very nice higher-end steak that can be enjoyed on special occasions or if someone is in the mood for that. But we will also have (a) less expensive and still delicious steak. I like to call Berry's on Main 'polished casual.' We will have comfort food that is fresh and homemade and of course the old rice pudding recipe, which I found in the basement! We are looking at showcasing, as much as possible, some of the beautiful produce and meats grown locally, a couple of pasta dishes, salmon, chicken and a delicious pork chop." She then thanked the Norwalk community for its patience waiting for Berry's to reopen. "Please know that we are working so hard to get this open for the community," Wall said. "I hope that this has addressed some of the questions everyone has about where we are in the process of opening. "I greatly appreciate your patience and hope that we will see you in the upcoming months when we are finally open," she added.
