Norwalk volleyball to fundraise for humane society

NORWALK — Who doesn't love animals? The Norwalk volleyball team will be hosting its annual "give back" match at 5:30 p.m. Thursday during an SBC Lake Division match against Perkins. The program will be raising money that will go toward the Huron County Humane Society. "The Humane Society is a wonderful place for animals to be rescued, and to be given another chance to live a happy life with a family," Norwalk senior volleyball player Jill Nash said. "A lot of people on our team and in our community has an animal who is more than just an animal — they are family. "Helping the Humane Society is an excellent way for us to help the animals find their forever homes," she added. "It will also show the community that we are thankful for all the support they have shown us throughout the season." The program will be having a 50/50 raffle, basket raffles, and a bake sale throughout the night, which starts with the junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a donation box, and all of the proceeds from each will go to the humane society. "Hopefully we're drawing attention to the fact that funds are low and it's a necessary thing," Norwalk head coach Sarah Kipp said. "Hopefully whatever we can raise will help whatever it can help for them." The donation box is located in the athletic office at Norwalk High School in the days leading up to the game for those interested in making a donation of supplies ahead of the match. Among the list of needs at the humane society includes floor cleaner, copy paper, heavy-duty trash bags, bleach, heart guard, wet kitten, cat and dog food, financial assistance for veterinarian care and surgeries, Frontline or Pet armor plus for cats and dogs, and Purina one dry kitten, cat and dog food. Nash was asked why the community should come to the regular season home finale on Thursday. The Truckers entered Tuesday needing one win to clinch their first league title since 2019, and the 22nd overall. "It is a wonderful feeling when you are out on the court and hear the crowd chanting and the sounds echoing in the halls," Nash said. "It really helps the team's energy stay high and fill the player's minds with hope when they might be struggling mentally that day. "When the community and our classmates take time out to come and support our team, it means so much more than what meets the eye."
