Area teams compete in Hohenstein Classic

CLYDE — Three area teams were among the 21 boys golf teams that took to the course at Green Hills Golf Course on Monday at the Ralph Hohenstein Classic. Willard shot a 344 to lead area teams, while Norwalk was close behind the Crimson Flashes with a 347. St. Paul also competed and shot a 370 among its top four golfers. Max Dawson paced Willard with an 80, also the low score among the 12 area golfers who scored for their respective team. Mason Dawson shot an 85 for Willard, followed by Elijah Reed (89) and Carter Bailey (90). The Truckers were led by Avery Scheel with an 81. Ethan Brown and Dylan Pigman each shot an 88, while Stephan Lukac was close behind with a 90. Owen Romell led the Flyers with an 85. He was followed by Dan Schwan (91), Tom Gocsik (97) and Fletcher Ross (97). Tiffin Columbian was the team winner, coming in at 312, just ahead of Old Fort's 318. Jace Riesen was individual runner-up with a 74 for the Tornadoes. The individual medalist was Tiffin Calvert's Kevin Ardner, who shot a 73. He was also the medalist at last Friday's New Riegel Invitational. Rain fell early and often at Green Hills, although it let up for most of the late morning after softening the course.
