School board taking applications for new board member

NORWALK — The Norwalk City School District Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill an unexpired term of board member that became vacant on May 31 due to the resignation of Board President Lisa Wick. Vice President Alison Crawford became the district's board president under board policy 1.09. Crawford thanked Wick for her service and dedication to the community, students and district for the last 7 1/2 years. Wick also served on the EHOVIE board for three years during her two terms, served as the legislative liaison since 2017, and dedicated countless hours to making a positive impact, Crawford said. She also stated she personally feels lucky having had the chance to learn from Lisa and wishes her the absolute best. Those interested in serving on the board should contact the school treasurer at treasurer@norwalktruckers.net for an application. Applications are also available on the district's website. Applications may be submitted electronically to ncsd-boed@norwalktruckers.net or paper copies will be accepted at the Board Office, 134 Benedict Avenue, from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, until noon on June 12. The board will begin interviewing candidates soon and must name a replacement within 30 days of the vacancy occurring. The newly appointed member will serve until Jan. 1, 2024. If the appointed member desires to continue serving, they must run in the next general election. According to Ohio law, people serving on Ohio school boards must be district residents, registered voters in the district, and at least 18 years old. The board will review all applications, interview candidates and decide on the replacement at a June meeting. Norwalk City School District serves 2,607 students in six buildings in the city of Norwalk and surrounding townships. The district will have two open seats for the next term. Anyone interested in running for an elected seat on a board of education must file a candidate petition with their county board of elections by 4 p.m. on Aug. 9. Board member Duane Moore, whose seat is up in November, has already taken out the paperwork to run, along with Shaun Taylor.
