May events at Huron County Community Library

NORWALK — May schedule for the Huron County Community Library: May is here and the Huron County Community Library is getting ready for summer with preparations for our Summer Reading Program "All Together Now." Each of our locations however, has plenty of activities planned for everyone to take part in this month. Willard Children's Book Week is May 1 through May 6. Stop by the Youth Services Department at our Willard location and celebrate with daily challenges on the bulletin board. Guess the title of the daily book challenge and earn a small prize or treat. Spring is in the Air!! Come to the Community Room at Willard on Tuesday, May 9 at 4:30 p.m. and make a bouquet of paper flowers for special person in your life. Springfest will be held in downtown Willard on Saturday, May 20. Come and see us between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for "Touch a Truck" and make a fun bracelet to wear. At 1 p.m. join the Library at the Doster Plaza in downtown Willard for an explosive science show with "Dr. Dave and the Whiz Bang Science Show". This event is free for all ages. There will be no Storytime or Teen Time the month of May as these departments prepare for summer. Pinterest Monday will be held on May 15 at 6 p.m. Sign-up is appreciated. We will be creating a unique and easy garden flag using Dollar Tree mats and decals. Join the Willard Library on Thursday, May 11 at 10 a.m. at the Willard Enrichment Center to make a Napkin Decoupage Flower Pot. You can even stick around after for a yummy lunch prepared by the Enrichment Center. Remember every Thursday at 6 p.m. is "Tech Thursday with Jarrad"! Drop in with your computer questions. Local retired music teacher, Johanna Beebe, will be here May 10 and 24 at 11 a.m. to hold free Dulcimer workshops. Come to the Community Room and learn what chords are, how to play, and more. Each week you will learn a new song or skill. A special Genealogy Workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. in our Computer room. The Firelands Genealogical Society will be here to help people who are at a "roadblock" with their family searches. There will be a ½ hour question and answer session followed by a computer session with a Genealogical helper. "Cook Up Storm Cookbook Club" at Willard will meet on May 4 at 6 p.m. The theme is "Secret ingredients". Cookbooks are available at the Public Services Desk. "Monday Reads" will get together on May 8 at 10 a.m. They will share their thoughts on "28 Summers" by Elin Hildebrand. Our "Turn the Page Book Discussion" will be meeting on Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m. They will discuss the book "Dial A for Aunties" by Jesse Q Sutanto. Manga Club for grades 6-8 meets at the Willard City Schools. Contact Mrs. Rogers or Mrs. Stevens for dates and to pick up a permission slip. North Fairfield Stop by our North Fairfield location on Saturday, May 6 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the library book sale. North Fairfield Library offers "Take and Makes" each week featuring a new craft or activity to do at home. Adults can also pick up "Grab and Go Kits". Check with Carolyn for these monthly kits. "The Sit and Stitch" group will meet May 1,8,15, and 22 at 10 a.m. Bring a project and join other crafty folks for conversation while crafting. Greenwich Our Greenwich location will not have Storytime during the month of May so they can prepare for an awesome summer reading season. Sign-up and join us at our Greenwich Library on May 1 at 5:30 p.m. for Pinterest Monday and create a unique and easy Garden Flag using Dollar Tree mats and decals. All home-school families are invited to join us at our Greenwich location on May 11 at 11 a.m. Jody Chaffee from the Firelands Symphony Orchestra will be presenting a very special hands-on music program suitable for all ages. Wakeman Our Wakeman location has plenty of activities planned for kids during the month of May. Pop In and Play is held on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come and take part in activities and play with toys on May 3 and 10. There will be crafts and activities at Wakeman "After School" on May 4 and 11. Drop in anytime between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. for fun activities. Storytime at Wakeman is held on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Join us on May 5 & 12. A Kids' Cookbook Club especially for homeschoolers is held at Wakeman on the first Tuesday of each month at noon. On May 2 they will be using the cookbook "Dinner Made Easy" by Six Sisters' Stuff. The adult "Wakeman Cookbook Club" will meet Monday, May 8 at 6 p.m. They will share recipes from "Suppers in a Snap" by Gooseberry Patch. "Who Picked This Book?" Wakeman book club", will get together on May 15 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the book "Horse" by Geraldine Brooks. Come to the Wakeman Library on May 22 at 5:30 p.m. for "Pinterest Monday". We'll be creating an easy Garden Flag. Take time to discover a digital world through your library. Ask your librarian about the Libby and Hoopla apps.
