'It's going to be a big deal'

NORWALK — It's been years in the making. Ever since Bob Evans found its new home on the north side of town, there has been talk of a traffic light at that busy intersection. The calendar will flip to April on Saturday, and before it flips again there should be a working signal at the intersection of Milan Avenue and Emerald Parkway. "I would say it is probably going to take them two weeks to get all of the signals attached and the wiring done," said Public Works Director Aaron Osborn. "They usually put it on flash for at least two weeks until it is fully functional. I would guess everything will be done by the end of April. "They will have to come back and do some pavement markings once it gets warmer." What will this mean for drivers on the north side of town? "I think it is going to make it whole lot safer, especially at that intersection," Osborn said. "It's going to be a lot safer and a lot more convenient. By having the traffic signal there and the one at Republic it should make it a lot easier. More breaks in traffic. It is going to be a big deal. It will be nice." Miller Cable, out of Green Springs, is in charge of the project. With the weather breaking that means there will be more roadwork around town, including: • West Main phase 1 construction beginning later this year. • May 1 — North Pleasant Street work between Main Street and Jefferson. • Benedict Avenue water main beginning later this year (Summit Street to Christie Avenue).
