Truckers cruise past Ross for second win

NORWALK — The Norwalk High School boys tennis team improved to 2-0 with Tuesday's 4-1 non-league win over visiting Fremont Ross at the Middle School courts. The Truckers picked up wins at second and third singles, as Ashton Coe beat Evan Garcia (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 2 spot, while Drew Thomas beat Jackson Swinehart (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3. The first doubles team of Josh Newhouse and Ethan Brown defeated Gage Ross and Rhein Hottinger (6-1, 6-0). At second doubles, Spencer Colahan and Braedyn Demuth defeated Tommy Brown and Zach Bishop (6-2, 6-2). Bryon Sommers fell at first singles to Cole Kinsey (6-2, 6-2). "Good win for us today," Norwalk head coach Ray Scheid said. "I was very happy with the play of Ethan and Josh at first doubles. They played with a lot of confidence and dominated play from start to finish. "Josh is a pivotal part of our varsity squad, as he has lots of experience at doubles and singles — so it gives us flexibility on where he plays," he added. "Today, I thought Ethan played with a lot more control and placed his shots better than the last match." In junior varsity matches, Kohen Ward and Eli Kluding won (8-2), followed by Thomas Vanderpool and Ronnie Freeman III (8-3). Kluding and Edward Ramos Cruz also won (8-2), while Evan Minor and Grayson Kiser fell, 8-5. Norwalk continues a busy first full week by hosting Port Clinton on Wednesday and visiting Ashland on Thursday. Bellevue 3, Edison 2 MILAN — The Chargers were edged by the visiting Redmen in their season opener on Tuesday. Winning for Edison was Parker Campbell at first singles and Jonah Main at third singles. Campbell beat Gavin Brugnone (6-0, 6-1), while Main defeated Brendan Reese (5-7, 7-5, 6-3). Also for Edison, Noah Proctor fell at second singles to Kaden Miller in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. At first doubles, Isabella Sanabria and Sam McClester fell to Mathew Higgins and Charles Littlejohn (6-0, 6-1). Andrew Gray and Wade Ruggles fell to Blake Hunter and Laken Dougherty (6-0, 6-0) at second doubles.
