Firelands Federal Credit Union keeps growing

NORWALK — It started out in a house across from St. Paul Elementary School. Now, Firelands Federal Credit Union just keeps on growing with branches in Norwalk, Monroeville, Bellevue, Sandusky, Bucyrus and Galion. On Tuesday, FFCU officials cut the ribbon to a new and improved lobby space at the Cleveland Road location in Norwalk. • In 1949 it began as the St. Paul Parish Credit Union, chartered to serve members of the St. Paul Catholic Church. • In 1977 it became known as the Norwalk Area Federal Credit Union. • In 1999 the Norwalk Area Federal Credit Union assets were merged into the Bellevue Federal Credit Union to become the Firelands Federal Credit Union. • In 2002 The new building on Cleveland Road was opened. "It was built larger than what we needed in 2002 and that foreshadowed the growth opportunities ... in the Norwalk market," FFCU President and CEO Brett Montague said. "Today we renew those commitments and those investments in the Norwalk area." Also speaking at the event on a sunny, brisk morning were Kelly Lippus, executive director of the Huron County Chamber of Commerce, board chairman Kenn Rospert, Kyle Stang, senior project manager for Janotta & Herner, and Norwalk Mayor Dave Light.
