Colton Sparks sets Plymouth pins record

CASTALIA — Record-setting Plymouth standout Colton Sparks highlighted five area finalists on Saturday at the Margaretta Caleb Stockmaster Memorial Invitational. A senior at 190 pounds, Sparks set a record midway through Saturday's tournament. With a first-round pin of Perkins' Haiden Bollini, Sparks earned the 115th pin of his career. That's a school record for the Firelands Conference standout, who entered the week ranked No. 3 in the Division III state rankings according to borofanohio.net. Sparks went on to finish with five wins, including four pins and a 16-0 technical fall over Twinsburg's Major Grant in the finals. Sparks is now 36-1 overall on the season entering the FC championships on Feb. 18 at St. Paul. As a team, Plymouth was the highest area finish in the team standings. The Big Red scored 138.5 points to finish fifth in the 18-team field. Cam Wagers (33-3), ranked No. 12 in the state at 113, finished in third place for the Big Red with a 3-1 mark. State-ranked No. 11 Andrew Miller (25-8) was also third at 138, as was Zach Miller at 150. Hunter McClure (165) was fourth and Ben Trimmer (132) was fifth for Plymouth. Willard scored 93 points and finished in seventh, with Jose Figueroa (18-8) reaching the finals at 106 for the Flashes with a 4-1 record. Also for Willard, Luke Slone was third at 132, while Trent Hart (113), Logan Williams (126) and Carson Cinniger (175) each placed fifth, followed by Adler Ames (120) in sixth. For Monroeville, Ian Patchen (27-11) reached the finals at 150 and finished in second with a 4-1 record. Braden Barman (113) was fourth, while Hayden Ryan (175) and Levi Beard (190) each placed sixth. New London's Wyatt Harrison went 3-1 and was also a finalist in second at 132. Zach Collins (144) and Hunter Chandley (150) each placed fifth for the Wildcats. Also reaching the finals was South Central's Brandon Smith (12-3) at 175, where he placed second. Teammate Cole Frankart was fourth at 113. Western Reserve had three placers, led by Anthony Lierenz in fourth at 106. Drake Munroe (138) was fifth, and Riley Lutz (106) was sixth.
