South Central girls win powerlifting title

OREGON — The South Central High School girls powerlifting team won a seven-team meet on Saturday, while the boys placed fourth among 12 teams at Clay High School. The girls totaled 5,365 pounds, which was just ahead of runners-up Marysville (5,235). Jenna Shepherd led the Trojans on Saturday by setting meet records in the bench (110 pounds), deadlift (300) and squat (290). She won her 225-pound weight class by lifting 700 total pounds. Kaylee Richards won the 115-pound weight class with lifts totaling 450 pounds. She won the squat (155 pounds) and the deadlift (210). Emalee Richards placed second at 115 with lifts totaling 400 pounds. Also for the S.C. girls, Olivia Murray was second in her weight (225) behind Shepherd with 645 total pounds. Lauren Ingram was third at 135 with 530 pounds, as was Autumn Fry (590) at 175. Jayla Tolliver placed 4th at 145 with lifts totaling 585 pounds. In the boys meet, the Trojans totaled 9,745 pounds to finish behind Marysville (12,315), Montpelier (11,255) and Oregon Clay (10,740). Braden Kiesel had another record-setting performance for the S.C. boys. He won all three events and set a meet record in the bench (270), a new meet and school record in the squat (540 pounds), and also won the deadlift with a new meet record of 490 pounds. The previous South Central record holder in the squat was Dakota Kinney (535) in 2012. Kinney was also the previous total weight record-holder with 1,225 pounds. Kiesel won the 185-pound weight class with a new meet and school record of 1,300 pounds. He was also the BMI top lifter award winner of the tournament with a BMI of 7.1. Also for the Trojans, Gage Lauderman won the bench with 275 pounds and placed second overall with lifts totaling 1,075 pounds.
