NAC takes ART Club to Cleveland's Playhouse Square

CLEVELAND — ART Club, Norwalk Arts Center's group for area high school students, traveled to Cleveland Sunday to see Cleveland State University's production of Sweeney Todd. For two of the young people, it was their first opportunity to see an event at Cleveland's Playhouse Square complex. The show was in the Allen Theatre. "It was great to see a musical at Playhouse Square for the first time," said Katelyn Libertowski, a Western Reserve student. "The whole experience was great and I can't wait to go again! "I am so thankful for all the opportunities that Norwalk Arts Center has given me," she added. After the performance, the high schoolers were able to meet with Dana Sumpter, a 2022 St. Paul High School graduate now attending Cleveland State. A freshman theatre major, she was in the production's wardrobe crew. "These young people have worked very hard on several projects for Norwalk Arts Center so we were grateful we could take the time to just enjoy the experience of live musical theatre," said Vanessa Cook, co-founder and board member for NAC. The students were able to attend the performance at no cost through grants from the Norwalk Area United Fund and the Huron County Community Fund. ART Club has already started on their next project — creating the NAC display for the Jaycees' Christmas Spectacular, Dec. 2 and 3 at the Huron County Fairgrounds. Christmas Spectacular NORWALK — Spreading Christmas cheer is what the Norwalk Jaycees plan to do this year with caroling, lights, treats and more. Everyone is invited to the Norwalk Jaycees' Chrismas Spectacular. The Jaycees have teamed up with more than 20 local clubs, non-profits and businesses to host a spectacular drive-through display for the community. The event will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3 at the Huron County Fairgrounds. This is a free event and donations will go to the Jaycees' Adopt a Family Project.
