OHSAA releases football first-round playoff pairings

COLUMBUS — Following the conclusion of the football regular-season on Oct. 22, the Ohio High School Athletic Association released the first-round playoff pairings Sunday afternoon. Unless otherwise noted, all first-round games will be played on Friday, with kickoffs set for 7 p.m. The top eight seeds in each region will serve as hosts for the first-round games. For the second-consecutive season, the top 16 schools in each region have qualified for the postseason, giving playoff berths to 448 schools. The regional playoffs will follow a bracket format. Second-round games will be played on Friday, Nov. 4, at the better seeded team's venue. Neutral sites will be used beginning in the third round, with Divisions I, II, III and V playing on Friday, Nov. 11, and Divisions IV, VI and VII playing on Saturday, Nov. 12. From the area, Edison (Div. V), Western Reserve (Div. VI) and St. Paul and South Central (Div. VII) qualified for the playoffs. The Chargers visit longtime league rival Huron, Western heads to Northwestern, while South Central travels to Salineville Southern and St. Paul entertains Lisbon David Anderson. Also of note, Olmsted Falls (8-2) earned a No. 5 seed in Div. II Region 6 and will host Toledo St. John's (5-5). The Bulldogs are coached by Tom DeLuca, a 1999 Norwalk graduate. In Div. VII Region 26, Antwerp is the No. 2 seed and entertains No. 15 Dola Hardin Northern. The Archers are coached by Jason Hale, a 2006 South Central graduate.
