Western beats New London in four sets

COLLINS — The Western Reserve volleyball team improved to 16-5 overall and 11-2 in the Firelands Conference with Tuesday's four-set win over visiting New London. The Roughriders posted scores of 25-21, 26-21, 21-25 and 25-19. Emma Hammond served 14 points and had 10 kills for Western, while Libby Weisenberger had nine kills and Drew Clemons served 17 points and had 16 digs. Also for Western, Jamie Muenz was 135-of-138 setting with 27 assists, and Jordan Feaga had 28 digs. For New London (11-10, 7-6), Sasha Bowens finished with 12 kills and Gracie Thomas had 11. Those served 13 points with four aces and Emilee Rowland had 16 points and four aces, while Thomas also had 29 digs and 11 assists. Also for the Wildcats, Rowland had 13 assists and eight digs, while Jocelyn Speicher had 17 digs, followed by Bowens with 13 and Madison Rowland with 11. "What a great turn out tonight," Western coach Lisa Muenz said of her program's annual "Volley for a cure" match. "It's great to have so much support for a great cause. All money raised from the two teams will go to the Fisher-Titus Mammography department." The 'Riders close out the regular season on Thursday at Mapleton. Monroeville 3, South Central 0 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles clinched the FC title outright with Tuesday's three-set sweep over visiting South Central. Monroeville won 25-12, 25-22 and 25-15 to improve to 17-4 overall and 13-0 in the league. Maddie Daniel finished with 17 kills, followed by Ady Adams with 12, Madison Reiber with eight and Alexa Adams with five. Madi Clark had 33 assists and nine digs, while Daniel and Lilly White each had 16 digs and Abbi Poths had 11. The championship is the eighth overall FC title for the Eagles, including three in the past four seasons. Monroeville's junior varsity team also won the FC title with a 25-20, 25-19 win. The JV Eagles are 16-4 overall (12-0 FC). St. Paul 3, Plymouth 0 NORWALK — The Flyers improved to 11-9 overall and 10-3 in the FC with Tuesday's sweep over the visiting Big Red. St. Paul won 25-23, 25-6 and 25-10. Ryleigh Rohrbacher finished with 16 kills and Ella Wangler had 14 for the Flyers. Lilly Cuturic served 15 points with two aces, and Klaire Hickey added 10 points, two aces and 12 digs. Also for the Flyers, who visit Monroeville on Thursday and host Edison on Saturday, Kristin Matlack finished with 38 assists. Port Clinton 3, Edison 1 MILAN — The Chargers fell to 5-15 overall and 1-8 in the SBC Bay Division with Tuesday's loss to the Redskins in four sets. Port Clinton won 25-15, 20-25, 25-16 and 25-23. For Edison, Natalie Leimeister had 13 assists with 11 points and three aces. Ella Habeck had 11 kills, while Kalli Quillen had 16 assists and Ellis Kramb had 27 digs. Also for the Chargers, Jorja Byington had seven kills, Dana Preston added four kills, and Karin Wlodarsky had 17 digs. Willard 3, Margaretta 2 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes came back from a 2-1 deficit to outlast the Polar Bears in five sets on Tuesday. Willard (14-7, 7-2) won 25-14, 19-25, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-9. Kelsey Lykins finished with 16 kills, five blocks, nine digs, and was 17 for 18 serving with two aces for the Crimson Flashes. Makinley Schaffer had 11 kills and was 16 for 17 serving with two aces, while Cassie Hamons was 16 for 17 serving with an ace and 32 assists. Also for the Flashes, Addie Stephens had six kills and nine digs, Syana Sivongsak had 16 digs, and Natalie Frye had four kills. "We had all the emotions of senior night and came out on fire," Willard coach Ashley bond said. "Those emotions kind of wore off in Game 2 and we started committing unforced errors, which led to easy points for Margaretta. Our blocking woke up in Game 5 and was a key part to the victory. "It was nice to send the seniors out with a win." Norwalk 3, Sandusky 0 SANDUSKY — The Truckers topped the host Blue Streaks for an SBC Lake Division win on Tuesday. Norwalk posted scores of 25-7, 25-15 and 25-11 to improve to 7-14 overall and 4-7 in the SBC Lake Division ahead of Thursday's regular season finale vs. Vermilion (17-3, 11-0).
