Area athletes tune up at Olien Invite

NEW LONDON — Area teams converged on the New London Dan Olien Invitational on Saturday as a final tuneup before league championships meets next weekend. The event featured both a 5K and two-mile run. In the boys 5K race, Ian Deeter was the top area finisher. The St. Paul senior turned in a time of 16:52.44 to place third overall. Also for the Flyers, Gavin Ross was 10th (17:47.1), followed by Owen Thimke (18:11.6) in 13th, Jack Dvorak (18:17.98) in 16th, Ethan Clark (19:25.49) in 40th and Brock Bores (19:43.01) in 40th. For host New London, Eliot Stroup (19:23.68) was 38th; Tate Landis (19:49.58) was 49th; and Shane Speicher (19:56.81) was 55th. Monroeville's Ian Patchen was 22nd in 18:39.74. In the two-mile race, St. Paul's Isaac Thimke was the overall winner in 10:29.74. Teammate Nick Centa (10:54.87) was fifth, followed by David Forrest (11:04.94) in eighth, Seth Ridge (11:14.39) in 10th and Eian Farrell (11:59.05) in 22nd. New London's Jalen Randelman was second in 10:31.9, followed by Wyatt Harrison (10:49.85) in fourth. Presley Ferguson (11:23.46) was 12th, followed by Mason Cowie (11:47.95) in 21st and Keith DeLong (12:14.27) in 25th. Plymouth's Colton Sundstrom (11:39.76) and Malachi Keefe (11:41.67) were 16th and 17th, respectively. In the girls 5K race, St. Paul's Adele Dowdell was the top area finisher in 10th place in 21:12.42. Scarlett Ross was 28th (22:44.59) for the Flyers, followed by Sydney Endsley (23:45.86) in 41st, Isabel howerton (25:57.45) in 43rd, Jadyn Smith (24:03.51) in 45th and Charlotte Hosack (24:04.02) in 46th. For New London, Alyssa Henry was ninth in 21:07.46. New London's Reese Landis won the two-mile race in 11:47.83, while teammates Valery Henry (13:12.1) and Clair Good (13:21.61) were third and fourth, respectively. Olivia Yetter (14:26.16) was ninth and Madison Smith (14:53.71) was 14th for the Wildcats. Also in the two-mile, Plymouth's Morgan Follett was fifth in 13:23.63. The Firelands Conference championship meet will be next Saturday at Western Reserve High School. Norwalk, Edison run two-mile dual MILAN — The Norwalk and Edison cross country programs matched up on Saturday to also run a two-mile race as a tune-up to the SBC Lake and Bay Division championships next weekend in Tiffin. Norwalk won the girls race by a 24-31 score, and the Chargers took the boys race, 18-41. Xavi Immel won the girls two-mile in 11:37, while sibling Zuri Immel was third in 11:48 and Isabel Ott (12:39) was fourth. Also for the Trucker girls, Maddison Trenor was seventh (13:19), Kylie Moser (13:38) was ninth and Kayli Bergman (13:45) was 11th. Max Bores placed third for the Norwalk boys in 10:46. Landon Knoll finished eighth in 11:40, while Owen Wagner (11:52), Joe Lyons (11:53) and Michael Lucas (11:54) placed ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively. Kynan Sparks was 13th in 12:08 and Landon Selka was 14th in 12:09. The Lake and Bay championships will be held beginning at 9 a.m. at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin. Willard competes at Fostoria FOSTORIA — The Willard cross country team participated in the Fostoria Boosters Invitational on Saturday. In the boys race, Kevin Hernandez led the Crimson Flashes by placing 10th overall out of 105 runners in 17:45.53. Sixto Gonzalez was 30th in 19:14.11, followed by Mason Carnahan (19:19.41) in 33rd. The boys lineup was rounded out by Taylor Biddinger (19:43.22) in 44th, Jorge Uriate (20:07.5) in 50th and Isaias Cuevas (20:20.49) in 51st. For the Willard girls, Lindsey Vogel was 14th in 21:27.06 and Jada Deel finished 43rd in 23:28.52.
