Library offers plenty of things to do

WILLARD — School is back in session and fall is in the air. September is here and all Huron County Community Library locations hope you will add our various programs and activities to your busy calendars. Bring your little one to our Willard location on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. or Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for Read to Me Storytime with Miss Mitzi. Join us for stories, crafts, songs, and more. The theme for Sept. 7 & 8 is "Back to School," Sept. 14 & 15 "From Big to Small," Sept. 21 & 22 "Autumn Colors are Here," and Sept. 28 & 29 "Barnyard Fun Down on the Farm." Celebrate National Read a Book Day and the new Mo Williams Book, "The Pigeon Will Ride the Rollercoaster" on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. Join us at the Willard Library for Pigeon activities and fun. Stop by the Youth Services Department for Board Games Bonanza on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m. Come to the Community Room to play some fun board games with us. Take part in a new "treasure hunt" at the library on Mon. Sept 19 at 4:30 p.m. Join us in the Community Room for Talk Like a Pirate Day and have fun at different activity stations on decoding, finding your pirate name and more. The Taste of Willard Festival is being held on Saturday, Sept. 24. As part of this special event, at 1 p.m., Magical Entertainer, Jim Kleefeld will be performing at the Doster Plaza. Be sure to bring a lawn chair. Many thanks to the Friends of the Willard Memorial Library for their generous donation for this performance. The Friends of the Willard Memorial Library will be holding a Book Sale on Sept. 23 and 24 during the Taste of Willard event. The Friends will also be having a Basket Raffle through Sept. 24. Contact a Friends member for how to purchase tickets. Tweens and Teens! Join Mrs. Rogers on Mondays in the Teen Room at 4 p.m. for crafts, activities and more! On Sept. 8 create "Fingerprint Art Glass Magnets," on Sept. 12 make a "Nuts and Bolts Dog Sculpture," on Sept 19 "Under $5 DIY Projects" and Sept. 26 take part in "Lego Challenge". The Pioneer Survival Company will be here in the Willard Library Community Room on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. They will discuss hiking strategies and awareness, survival skills, gear, and first aid. Let's Make Soap on Mon. Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Willard Annex. This free workshop will look at using the melt and pour technique to make our own soap. Our soap will be decorated with an ocean theme. Sign-up is required for this event. Writers' Group will meet with Josh on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. If you love to write, want to start writing but haven't found the time, contact Josh at jfigley@huroncolib.org and sign-up or get more information to join our group. Pinterest Crafts are held at the Willard Library Annex. Grab and Go Craft Kits for these workshops can be picked up at our North Fairfield, Wakeman, or Greenwich locations while supplies last. Contact your library location for details. On Monday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. Join us at the Willard Annex to create 3D Paper Mache Birds that would look great decorating your home or office. On Monday, Sept.19 pick up a Grab and Go Kit at all of our library locations and create flowers using newspaper or book pages. "Monday Reads" meets on the 2nd Monday of every month at 10 a.m. at Willard. The book for Sept. 19 is "Illness Lesson" by Clare Beams. Also at Willard, "Turn the Page Book Discussion" meets the last Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. The book for discussion on Sept. 29 is "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. The Inspirational Book Club of North Fairfield will be reading "Together Forever" by Jody Hedlund. "Who Picked This Book?" book club at Wakeman meets Sept. 21 at 5:30 p.m. and will share thoughts on "The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot" by Marianne Cronin. Wakeman's Cookbook Club will meet Monday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. and share recipes from "Hope's Table: Everyday Recipes from a Mennonite Kitchen" by Hope Helmuth. We are introducing a new book club at the Greenwich Library! You'll want to join them if you like mysteries, thrillers, and suspense. The first book that has been chosen is "Who is Maud Dixon?" by Alexandra Andrews. Pick up the book in September to be discussed in October. Drop in anytime kids between 3:30 to 6:30 PM on Sept. 15, 22, and 29 for a different, fun activity each week. Beginner Line Dancing continues at Wakeman on Sept. 1 and 15 at 4 p.m. This activity meets at the Wakeman Masonic Hall across the street from the library. Bringing a water bottle is recommended. Wakeman Storytime meets on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Bring your children to join us on Sept. 16, 23, and 30. Are you a home school family? Join us at our Greenwich location once a month for a special group just for you. Each month will focus on learning and experiments or activities in different school subjects. This group kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. Kids, stop by and pick up a Take and Make on Tues. Sept. 6, and Mon. Sept 12, 19, and 26. Each date will feature a new craft or activity that you can do at home. Join Miss Jenny for Story time at our Greenwich location. You can stop by on Wednesday evening or Friday morning. Evening story time is held at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Morning Story time is held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 9, 16, 23 and 30. Both story times feature crafts, stories and more made just for your little one. Teens pick up your Take and Make kits on Sept. 12 and 26. These kits are made to create at home. All Take and Make kits are available while supplies last.
