Norwalk girls second at SBC Lake Shootout

CATAWBA ISLAND — The Norwalk girls golf team finished second by just three strokes to Vermilion at Wednesday's SBC Lake Division Shootout hosted at the Catawba Island Club golf course. The Sailors turned in a 225 to win the eight-team event, while the truckers were next with a 228. For Norwalk, Kilee Duncan shot a 53, followed by Hayley Zagor with a 54 and Katie Wolcott with a 56. Also for Norwalk, Analiese King shot a 65, Lexie Swick had a 66 and Gracie Wiegel added a 74. Rounding out the field on Wednesday was Bellevue (231), Perkins (237), Oak Harbor (250), Clyde (258), Columbian (263) and Port Clinton (263). Norwalk is back in action on Monday when it visits Vermilion in another Lake Shootout event. TENNIS Columbian 4, Norwalk 1 TIFFIN — The Norwalk girls tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday, a 4-1 setback to Tiffin Columbian in the SBC Lake Division opener. The Truckers' second doubles team of Kenzie Smith and Abby Mozina picked up Norwalk's lone point with a 7-5, 7-6(3) win over Ella Reis and Elise Johnson. Norwalk's second doubles team of Maya Phillips and Kendall Hammersmith lost a tight 7-6 (3), 6-4 decision to Mackenzie Davis and Lydia Ridner. Columbian swept the three singles matches: Kelsie Weingart defeated Sidney Sage 6-0, 6-1; Ashley Reinart defeated Ana Osborn 6-2, 6-1; and Ella Dysard defeated Lauren Brown 6-0, 6-1. In junior varsity play, Shyla Gruhlke and Madelyn Long won, 6-5. In other action, Mary Willis and Chloe Hazelwood fell (6-4), as did Grace Sorenson and Roxy Brummit (6-1), Vanessa Vazquez and Sarah Hart (6-2), Lilly McDuffie and Zoey Cooper (6-0) and Alex Scott and Their Harris (6-0). Norwalk fell to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the Lake ahead of Thursday's match at Sandusky. Willard 5, Sandusky 0 SANDUSKY — Willard's girls tennis team won all five matches in straight sets on Wednesday to shut out Sandusky, 5-0.Naomi Schag won at first singles over Anisha Chopra (6-1, 6-0). Macey Robinson took second singles over Marilyn Miller (6-4, 6-4).
