Fulton moving up, following in his dad's footsteps

NORWALK — It was a family affair, kind of, in Norwalk City Hall Friday morning. As Justin Fulton was sworn in as the Norwalk Police Department's newest sergeant, the rest of his proud family was on hand to watch. Kind of. Justin's dad, Jim Fulton, is a captain and executive officer with the department. But Jim was at home under the weather watching on Facetime as his daughter, Jordan, held the phone. "He made it a little quicker than I did," Jim Fulton said about his son. "He made it in just over five years. It's a great day. I am happy for him. "Hopefully he will continue to be one of the leaders of the department. These young guys need to step up and bring the department into the future. Their No. 1 job is to support the chief and help him make the department an excellent department and meet the needs of the citizens of Norwalk." Justin Fulton, a 2013 St. Paul High School graduate, just celebrated his fifth anniversary with the department. His wife, June, pinned the sergeant's badge on his uniform. "You've always wanted to be a police officer, which is evident by your early childhood days and your first gun," Norwalk Mayor Dave Light with a laugh as a photo of a young Justin Fulton in a bathing suit holding a water gun flashed up on the screen behind them. "Thank you everybody for being here," Justin said. "It's and exciting day and I'm looking forward to this next chapter." His mom, Jennifer, stood by next to Jim's father, Jim Sr. "It is an exciting day," Jennifer said. "I said, 'you watch, she (Jordan) is going to college and quit after six months then go to police school. I have two good kids. I'm very blessed." Jordan, a recent St. Paul High School graduate, is preparing for her freshman year at Tiffin University where she will compete on the track and field team. "It's pretty awesome ... something to look up to," she said about her older brother.
