Willard routs Western for tournament win

COLLINS — The Willard softball team scored four times in the first inning for an early lead, then exploded for 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning in Tuesday's 17-5 win over host Western Reserve in a Division III sectional semifinal. With the win, the Crimson Flashes (2-12) advanced to Saturday's sectional title game at Colonel Crawford. Willard was led a the plate by Cassidy Hamons, as the leadoff hitter was 3 for 5 with a triple, four Rbis and scored twice. Olivia Whetstone was 2 for 3 and scored three times, while Ellen Fox drove in three runs, and Makinley Schaffer was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Macey Robinson added a single and an RBI while scoring four times for Willard. In the circle, Lauren Hamons allowed four earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and four walks in six innings. For Western Reserve (3-15), Josalyn Charville was 2 for 3 with a double, while Sydnie Prince singled and drove in two runs. Abby Hamisfar and Lacey Greszler each added singles.
