Harold Richard 'Dick' Kuhlman, Jr.

Harold Richard "Dick" Kuhlman, Jr., or as he was known by most, "Sloop", died April 11, 2022, at MetroHealth in Cleveland. Born on Jan. 21, 1947, in Dover, he was the son of the late Harold R. and Betty Virginia (Woeber) Kuhlman, Sr. Dick grew up in the Norwalk area and graduated from New London High School before being drafted into the U.S. Army. After his initial commitment, Sloop reenlisted. He proudly served in the 1st Cavalry Div 7th Battalion with two tours in Vietnam, ending his military career as a Sergeant. He retired from Lake Park Industries in Greenwich. He was also a Greenwich police officer for some years. An avid outdoorsman, Sloop loved to hunt, fish and search for arrowheads. He enjoyed gardening, collecting food jars and canning his own produce. With a dry sense of humor, Sloop liked laughing with family and friends and enjoyed reunions with his military buddies. His other hobbies included shooting his canon, collecting firearms, mushroom hunting, and his welder's cap. Dick is survived by his children, John (Danny Munsiff) Kuhlman of Chicago, Roberta (Steve Poynter) Kuhlman of Michigan, Anna (Cody Scarvelli) Kuhlman of Mansfield, and Daniel (Sandra Stephens) Kuhlman of Ontario; 12 grandchildren and sisters, Kathy Kuhlman of North Carolina and Patty Heyden of California. He was preceded in death by siblings, Bill and Mary. Family and friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, where the memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
