Norwalk tennis places fifth at Perkins

PERKINS TWP. — The Norwalk High School boys tennis team placed fifth at the Perkins doubles tournament on Saturday. Finishing in third place for the Truckers was the team of Bryan Sommers and Josh Newhouse. The pair opened with an 8-0 win over Vermilion, followed by an 8-0 loss to Bowling Green. Sommers and Newhouse finished their day with an 8-7 (2-) win over Ashland. The second doubles team of Ezra Forney and Landan Klatt placed fourth. They opened with an 8-0 win over Perkins, then fell to Ashland (8-5) and Mayfield (8-2). At third doubles, also playing fourth was Ethan Brown and Eli Kluding. They defeated Clyde (8-4) and lost to Huron (8-5) and Bowling Green (8-5). Finishing tied for seventh was the No. 4 doubles team of Xavier Sweet and Kohn Ward. The pair lost to Ashland (8-4) and Bowling Green (8-5). Norwalk 5, Shelby 0 SHELBY — The Truckers swept the host Whippets for a non-league win on Friday to improve to 4-5 overall. At first singles, Bryan Sommers beat Jacob Williams (6-1, 6-2) and Josh Newhouse topped Jared Billheimer (6-2, 6-1) at second singles. At third singles, Ethan Brown defeated Tony Roub (6-1, 6-3). At first doubles, the team of Ezra Forney and Landan Klett beat Ty Keinath and Bryson Baker (7-5, 6-2), while the No. 2 team of Eli Kluding and Xavier Sweet won over Ty Cox and Carter Neff (7-5, 6-1). Norwalk, 3-1 in the SBC Lake Division, hosts Sandusky on Tuesday in a league match.
