Ruth A. Underwood

Ruth A. Underwood, 96, of North Fairfield, died on Monday, April 4, 2022, at The Willows of Willard. She was born on Feb. 3, 1926, in Plymouth, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Laura (Meyer) Phillips. Ruth was a 1944 graduate of North Fairfield High School. She married Robert M. Underwood Sr. and together they shared 67 years of marriage until his passing in 2010. Ruth was a homemaker, and focused her attention on their family and raising their four sons. She was a member of The Ripley Church. Ruth enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing and quilting but her gardening and flowers brought her true joy. Ruth is survived by her sons, John Underwood of Orange Park, Florida, Jarold (Margaret) Underwood of Port Clinton, Robert Underwood Jr. of Greenwich and Mark (Julie) Underwood of Port Clinton; four grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Schuster, Yvonne Underwood, Jarold Jr. Underwood, and Renee Deneau; nine great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert; grandson, Zayne Underwood; siblings, Reginald, Robert, Charles and Cletus Phillips, Marlene Brooks, Emma Hill and Mary McLaughlin. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich. Burial will follow at Edwards Grove Cemetery.
