$75,000 awarded to non-profits in Huron County

NORWALK — The new Huron County Community Foundation's board of directors voted to distribute more than $75,000 to area non-profits, schools, and municipalities at its first grants meeting. Projects awarded span a variety of community needs and add to the quality of life in Huron County. Examples include supporting Firelands Rails to Trails as it seeks to maintain trails and connect communities across the north coast, a video campaign geared towards bringing our young workforce home by the Norwalk Economic Development Corporation, and outdoor summer concerts from Firelands Symphony Orchestra. The Community Foundation's board of directors have put an emphasis on our community's children and awarded many grants to create safe spaces and enrich the lives of kids. Examples include supporting the Huron County Imagination Library, which provides new and free books to children, assisting in the purchase of soccer balls and equipment for the Huron County Youth Soccer Club, aiding speech language therapy for children during summer programs at Norwalk's First Presbyterian Church, and helping create a Makerspace which is a STEM project at New London Elementary School. A full list of organizations awarded in first grant cycle of 2022 are listed below. The Huron County Community Foundation will offer another round of grants later in the summer of 2022.
