Details emerge from Milan car crash

MILAN — Authorities on Monday released the woman's name and some other details as it relates to a serious car crash taking place two days prior in Milan. Meanwhile, the condition of this woman — Norwalk resident Mary Saxton, whose identity became public Monday — remains unknown, but she did sustain "incapacitating injuries," officials said. Just after 12 a.m. Saturday, a car crashed into two homes on Lockwood Road in Milan. A village police report outlines what allegedly happened: • Saxton's vehicle "was traveling south on U.S. 250 when it exited the left side of the roadway, crossed the intersection at Lockwood Road, entered the median and went airborne." • The vehicle "then landed, crossed Lockwood Road again and went airborne." • "After landing, the vehicle struck the front portion of the house at 68 Lockwood Road." • "The vehicle then struck the side of the house at 70 Lockwood Road, coming to a final rest." "She had to be extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means," Milan police Chief Robert Meister said. She was first taken to North Central EMS and later flown, by medical helicopter, to a Cleveland-area hospital, according to Milan fire Chief Brian Rospert. Rospert added how a crew of about 20 firefighters "worked tirelessly to get her extricated." The home's occupants, however, were not hurt. "That was by the grace of God," Meister said.
