7th person charged in Kalahari dorm shooting

PERKINS TWP. — Police arrested another man in connection to Monday's fatal shooting at Kalahari Resorts' employee dorms on Milan Road (U.S. 250.) Travon Brown, 22, of Warren, Michigan, was charged with obstructing justice, a fifth-degree felony. Perkins police said Brown allegedly impeded their investigation into the early morning shooting of 24-year-old Deontre Ravon Tate, of the Cleveland area, at Kalahari's employee dorms, which are separate from the resort — located on Milan Road (U.S. 250) just south of Ohio 2. Tate was shot once and pronounced dead at the scene. He's since been booked into the Erie County Jail and released on his own recognizance. "The Perkins Township Police Department would like to thank Kalahari Resorts security and staff for the immense help they were in providing assistance and support during this investigation," the department posted online. "Without their assistance and the lengths that they go to keep the Kalahari Housing Dorms safe made this investigation into a couple days which could have easily been several months." Perkins police also announced they recovered a firearm, which they suspect was the one used in the shooting. Six other people have already been charged in connection to the shooting: • Delonnie C. Brown, 26, aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, both first-degree felonies • Daquan D. Brown, 19, aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony • Quinton Cangelo, 22, aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony All are from the Toledo area, and two of the three work at Kalahari, police said. Others charged are: • Sofia Alayza, 20, tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony • Jems Vasquez, 20, tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony • Grims Vasquez, 20, complicity tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony All three are from the Toledo area and all of them work at Kalahari, according to police. Daquan Brown, Delonnie Brown and Quinton Cangelo remain in the Erie County Jail as of Friday afternoon. Jems Vasquez, Grims Vasquez and Sofia Alayza have since been released on bond.
