Edison girls fall at Firelands

HENRIETTA TWP. — The Edison girls basketball team was outscored by seven points in the first quarter, and in the second half of Monday's 52-41 non-league loss to host Firelands.With the loss, Edison fell to 4-9 overall ahead of Thursday's non-league game vs. Seneca East (10-2).In Monday's loss, senior Lindsay Roberts led Edison with 19 points. Kalli Quillen added 13 points for the Chargers, who trailed 14-7 after one quarter and 25-21 at halftime. WRESTLINGS.C. places three at PlymouthPLYMOUTH — South Central's Brandon Smith won the 165-pound weight class while Diton Farnsworth placed third at 113 on Saturday at the Plymouth Marcus Dawson Memorial Invitational.The Trojans placed ninth in the 12-team field with 59.5 points.Smith went 5-0 and won all five matches by pin, winning his first individual title since his freshman season., Farnsworth was 3-2 with a pin and a technical fall. Hayden Berry also placed sixth for South Central at 175."Each wrestled well with some stiff competition," South Central coach Ken Johnson said. "We were pleased with how each wrestled. Farnsworth is wrestling solid as a freshman in a talented 113-pound weight class. He wants to get better and we see improvement each week"Brandon was out most of last year due to an injury," he added. "It is good to see him getting comfortable on the mat again. Berry made scratch weight and finally had a chance to wrestle this year. We are pleased with all of their performances and looking forward to what this next week brings."
