Make that short time the true meaning of Christmas

This is a letter to the Editor that I felt strongly that I needed to write. The announcement of Gov. (Mike) DeWine's major events is most exciting news. This is going to be great for Ohio. It is also more exciting to hear that this is coming from the COVID 19 Federal Relief Monies that the Republicans refused to support. Oh yes, some of it is coming from the bi-partisan bill recently passed but far too many Republicans did not support that bill either. I don't mind that the Republicans are trying to cash in on the accolades from having this kind of support. It is, however, necessary to point out that if this current administration hadn't proposed and worked tirelessly to get the first relief bill passed and then to work with the handful of Republicans who knew that their states badly needed the the last bill passed, we wouldn't have the assistance to the working class people who are the foundation of America. We need the leaders who are able to help organize and create the advances that help us economically so I don't deny that the top 1% deserves to be rewarded for their ability to help innovative and create the structures that bring wealth to the United States. I am not asking for their mansions, yachts and ability to travel cross continents as they do. I am stating though, that are those of us who do the hard labor to build the buildings, create the assembly lines, sometimes work hours that take us away from our families during the most precious time of their lives. We deserve to be acknowledge for our part in the economic growth of America. That is where the Republicans lack understanding of what power really means. It doesn't mean the top 1% takes all. It doesn't mean it will be our way only in this world. We live in a republic with a democracy that thrives on working together. It means that voting is a right in a republic and that every vote counts. Sort of like Red Rover. Unless the entire line holds steady the enemy will break through and there is evil in this world. There are some who don't know how to play well together. It seems like we are playing dodge ball and who can ever throw the ball the hardest at the other player in the middle to take him out is the survivor. Enough! The Democrats deserve to be acknowledge for the Republican states that are benefiting from the policies and programs that they have enacted. While you are enjoying these benefits, remember that there is one more bill that we need to pass to bring our economy back to the level we once knew. It is the Build Back Better Bill. How I wish that when our family was starting, we had an administration that cared about providing assistance with climate control, day care, elderly care, more in the way of making it better for our kids in school. Nixon was in then and we had the freeze on electricity. We lived through a lot just like the generations before us. Now we know how to make life better for the citizens of the United States. I can't help thinking that there will be generations going forward who will have even more innovative ideas to make life better for all of our citizens. Unions wouldn't have to exist if companies treated their employees with respect and instituted policies within the corporations that aided their employees in raising their families. Those are the kids of the future, they are the ones who will progress and care for our planet. This is some serious times in America. This is what my mom and dad worked hard for all their lives. This is what my husband and I have worked hard for and instilled in our children. This is what should be the goal of all of us as we move forward. We are only here on earth for a short time in the realm of things. Make that short time the true meaning of Christmas. Marilyn Dillon Wakeman
