Anniversary

Russell and Marilyn (Haag) Dillon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 27. They were married in Elyria at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They were introduced to each other following Russ's return from his tour of duty in Vietnam by his sister Carol who was Marilyn's roommate at M B Johnson S of N in Elyria. Together they had three children: Russell E. Dillon Jr of Toledo; Katherine M. (Tyler) Carp of Vermilion; and Amy H. (Joe) Weisenberger of Norwalk; and two grandchildren: Elizabeth and James. Russell retired from Ironworker's Local 17 and uses his spare-time to do wood carving with the Lorain County Wood Carvers. He attends many flea markets and festivals offering his carvings for sale. Russ also assists his wife in her many volunteer experiences without the accolades of being an actual volunteer. He much prefers it that way but is a tremendous addition to many projects. Marilyn retired from nursing in 2019. She worked for Elyria Memorial, Fisher Titus, and Erie County Board of MR/DD as a registered nurse and following her return to school at Toledo University graduated with a degree in education to work as a school nurse. Right after her first retirement in 2006, she was able to work as a substitute school nurse for the Lorain County Joint Vocational School. Marilyn enjoys volunteering, crocheting and greeting card making in retirement. In lieu of a formal celebration during this pandemic, the couple enjoyed celebrating in Pigeon Forge for three days and will have a dinner with the immediate family in Toledo where their son lives. Their motto for a successful marriage is: A PERFECT MARRIAGE IS JUST TWO IMPERFECT PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO GIVE UP ON EACH OTHER. (anonymous).
