Terry Wilson deck replacement underway

NEW LONDON — The replacement of the Terry Wilson Memorial Deck is underway and is expected to be completed in a few weeks. Wilson, a New London High School and Ohio State University graduate, served as editor of the New London Record for many years, while being confined to a wheelchair most of that time. A member of the New London Rotary, Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) and the Sons of the American Legion, he was well known and active in the community. After he died in April of 2014, Rotary and CIC members decided to plan a project in his memory. Because he loved the Reservoir Park but had mobility issues, a deck out over the water accessible to all was chosen and funds were raised. The deck was a popular spot for several years, but after its supports were damaged by ice action, it was condemned and finally demolished. Plans for the replacement call for a cantilevered design that extends over the water but is anchored on shore. Construction was scheduled to begin this spring but postponed due to high water and is underway now. The deck is located near the boat launch area of the reservoir, and the public is invited to come out and see its progress or the finished product. Although the campground will soon close and swimming, picnicking and other activities will end, the Reservoir Park is a beautiful location to walk and enjoy nature. Grove Street Cemetery NEW LONDON — The Grove Street Cemetery Board has recently pulled all the soldier plaques in front of the military service flags in order to make corrections and add more names. At the flag dedication during Salute to the Services Sept. 11, members of the public asked about adding more soldier names. To do so, send a $25 donation plus the name, branch of service, and either the war period or years of service to Cemetery Board, 115 East Main, New London OH 44851. &emsp;&emsp; &emsp; Crockpot pizza lunch Monday NEW LONDON — The Alliance Church at 4625 SR 162 invites seniors to a crockpot pizza lunch at noon Monday at the church.
