Norwalk falls to state-ranked Perkins in four

NORWALK — The state-ranked Perkins volleyball team won in four sets on Tuesday over host Norwalk in an SBC Lake Division match at Norwalk High School. The Pirates (14-2, 9-1) — ranked No. 18 in the latest Division II state coaches poll — won by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-12. With the loss, Norwalk fell to 7-13 overall and 2-8 in the Lake. For Norwalk, Lucy Schlotterer had 15 kills and 16 digs, followed by Kendall Weber with nine kills and Baylee Chapin with seven kills and three blocks. Harlee Genovesi finished with 24 digs, Callie Helton had 21, and Skyler Cassidy finished with 36 assists and 14 digs. Brooklyn Davis added four kills for Norwalk, which hosts Sandusky on Oct. 12. "We came out and fought hard in the first two sets and did a lot of good things," Norwalk coach Sarah Kipp said. "Somewhere in the middle of Set 3, our youth took over. We had some unforced errors, Perkins' block took charge and the outcome of the third and fourth sets was won with their experience. "Overall I am not unhappy with what I saw the girls do tonight," she added. "After a few weeks of ups and downs and several injuries, I think we are headed in the right direction at the right time." St. Paul 3, Mapleton 0 ORANGE TWP. — The state-ranked Lady Flyers cruised to a there-set win over the host Mounties in an FC match on Tuesday. St. Paul (14-3, 10-0) — ranked No. 12 in the latest state coaches poll in Div. IV — won by scores of 25-12, 25-10 and 25-5. For St. Paul, Dyllan Knoll was 43-of-43 setting with 26 assists, and Josie Skinn was 15 for 16 serving with 12 points and two aces and had 10 digs. Presley Stlang finished 15 for 16 serving with 10 points, two aces, and added 12 digs and four kills. Also for the Lady Flyers, Sarah Matlack was 11 for 12 serving with eight points, two aces and added seven kills. Megan Leibold had six kills and three blocks, and Brooke Houck and Karlie Rudolph each had six kills. St. Paul hosts South Central on Wednesday in another FC match. Monroeville 3, Crestview 0 MONROEVILLE — The state-ranked Eagles improved to 15-2 overall and 10-1 in the FC with Tuesday's Firelands Conference win over visiting Crestview. The Eagles — ranked 13th in the latest Division IV state poll — won with scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-15. For Monroeville, Graisyn Yoder finished with 19 kills and three blocks and was 15 for 16 serving with four aces. Maddie Daniel had 11 kills, and Hannah Lyons finished with 30 assists, 11 digs and five kills. Also for the Eagles, Abbi Poths was 19 for 20 serving with four aces and 13 digs. Brooklyn Schaffer added five kills and Lilly White had 13 digs. New London 3, Plymouth 2 PLYMOUTH — The Wildcats outlasted the Big Red in five to win an FC match on Tuesday, 19-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19 and 15-9. For New London (4-12, 2-8), Sasha Bowens finished with 14 kills, 12 assists and 10 digs, and Emilee Rowland had 12 kills, four blocks and 18 assists. Jocelyn Speicher served 21 points with five aces and had 31 digs, while Grace Popa had 13 kills, 21 digs, and served 13 points with two aces. Madison Rowland added 18 digs for the 'Cats. Willard 3, Port Clinton 0 PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes improved to 6-12 overall and 2-5 in the SBC Bay with Tuesday's sweep over the Redskins, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21. For Willard, MaKinley Schaffer had nine kills, followed by Grace Hall (8), Addie Stephens (6) and Cassie Hamons (6). Hamons was also 23 for 25 serving with two aces and had 29 assists and seven digs. Also for the Flashes, Hall was 11 for 12 serving with three aces, Syana Sivongsak had 12 digs and Jaiden Sexton added seven. Huron 3, Edison 1 HURON — The Chargers fell to 9-8 overall and 2-5 in the Bay Division with Tuesday's four-set loss to the state-ranked Tigers, 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23. In the loss, Edison senior Kira Appeman recorded the 1,000th dig of her career as she finished with 20 kills, 25 digs and served seven points. Also for the Chargers, Lydia Woodyard had 12 kills, 26 digs and 11 points, and Olivia Vitaz had 36 assists and 16 digs. Skylie Hixon led the defense with 36 digs. Monroeville 3, Bellevue 0 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles swept the visiting Lady Red on Monday for a non-league win. Monroeville won by scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-21. Daniel finished with 21 kills and Yoder had 17 kills and 19 digs. Lyons finished with 36 assists, while White was 13 for 14 serving with three aces and 18 digs. Madi Clark was 16 for 17 serving with an ace and Poths addd 10 digs.
