Kate and Khloe Boutique opens up store on Main Street

NORWALK — Kate and Khloe Boutique is movin' on up. The store held a ribbon cutting recently as it moved from its spot on Benedict Avenue to Main Street in Norwalk. The ribbon-cutting was about a five-minute event as Huron County commissioner Skip Wilde, members of the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and customers shopping in the store all posed for a picture. Kate and Khloe Boutique was started by Kelly McKay, who was just recently married to her husband Donald McKay on July 18. "Kelly began her small business journey in the kitchen with wine jams. Her key to making these delicious jams? Using wines from various wineries near Lake Erie. As she travelled to vendor shows and markets, her itch turned from jam and crackers to hand-made earrings and hand-pressed shirts," a statement Kate and Khole's website said. McKay decided to settle down in Norwalk and opened her doors in May of 2019 on Benedict Avenue. After closing like many businesses due to the pandemic, she decided a move to Main Street would fit her business best. "We are able to bring in more product but also customers have more space. It was a driving reason why the move to Main Street was the best thing for us," Kelly McKay said. The business consists of foods and handmade crafts, all produced in the state of Ohio. The store also has clothing, from four lines all in the United States. However, the earrings are what started the business and what the business continues to be most focused on with 13 different makers of earrings able to be shopped from at the store, all from Ohio. In total, the store features 40 to 50 Ohio-based makers The McKays say they hope the business will thrive on Main Street and add to the scene of uptown Norwalk.
