'AlertMe' property fraud notification service

NORWALK — For most people, the process of buying or selling a home involves the largest transfer of money they will make in their lifetimes. Real Estate fraud occurs when someone falsely or illegally tries to use someone else's property for financial gain. It is one of the fastest growing white collar crimes today. The Huron County Recorder's Office provides the residents of Huron County with a tool to help combat possible real estate fraud. AlertMe examines all new filings (and corrections made to old documents) looking for matches on the user specified criteria and will send out an email detailing the relevant information. Once a user signs up, AlertMe will send out a confirmation email to the address specified during the registration process. This will prevent malicious use of the tool. AlertMe allows users to define the names of people or businesses they want to be notified for any suspicious activity. Powered and run by Document Technology Systems (DTS), you can sign up for the free service by agreeing to the disclaimer terms when you access the portal from the AlertMe Icon on the Recorder's website: www.huronrecorder.org. Once you open the website, click on the bright blue AlertMe box at the top of the page. After reading the disclaimer and accepting the terms, the AlertMe registration window will open. Once you set up your account you will have the opportunity to enter the names that you would like the AlertMe system to look for in our recording software. When a document is recorded under that name or a correction is made to an existing document you will receive an email notification. The Huron County Recorder's Office offers this as a free service.
