NHS Class of 1971 to hold 50th reunion

NORWALK — The Norwalk High School Class of 1971 is planning to hold its 50th anniversary reunion on Aug. 14 at the local Elks chapter clubhouse on South Norwalk Road. Plans for the reunion weekend include an informal come-as-you-are, BYOB gathering at the Maple Street home of Don and Debi Helton at 4 p.m. Aug. 13. The main-event reunion set for Aug. 14 will kick off with "happy hour" socializing at 5 p.m. at the Elks club, located on the corner of U.S. 250 South and South Norwalk Road, followed by a catered dinner at 6:30 p.m. The evening's fun will include a raffle of several items donated by classmates, including a painting by award-winning artist Terry Anderson, a framed vintage 1948 postcard of the main NHS building, and milk bottles from both Bell and Norwalk dairies, among other ephemera. Dinner tickets are $45 each. On Sunday, Aug. 15, all are invited to shelter house 4 at Veterans Memorial Lake Park at Old State Road and Executive Drive for dedication of a memorial class tree in honor of those from the Class of 1971 who are no longer with us. This informal event begins at 11 a.m., with a brief ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Attendees encouraged to bring a bag lunch and visit with old friends.
