Norwalk continues uptown improvements

NORWALK — Norwalk Mayor Dave Light is looking forward to all the improvements coming to Norwalk. The mayor said this week he's presenting council with legislation to appropriate funds for restrooms at Shur Family Park. Light has said for months one of his goals is to build a restroom facility at Shur Park to be used for downtown events. During tonight's council meeting, legislation to approve funding for this project will be introduced. "That's a pretty big deal. If you have nice restrooms there, it'll be a huge addition to downtown Norwalk," he said. "When it's time to have an event down there, they always have to rent Porta-Johns." The proposed supplemental appropriations are $34,500 from the Park and Rec Property Acquisition and Physical Improvement Fund and a $34,500 match from the General Captial Improvement Fund for the construction of the restrooms. Light said the facility will be on the corner of West Main and Church Streets. The 4th of July parade is also returning to Norwalk this year and donations are being collected for city fireworks. "We're having a 4th of July parade, which is going to be exciting and fun. Things are getting back to normal, things are coming along nicely," he said. For the McGuan Park revitalization project, Light said the electricity needs to be inspected so they can continue to move forward. Norwalk's finance director, Sandi Weltlin, will also request to appropriate the remaining amount of donations received for the project during tonight's meeting. The all-abilities park project received $43,851.68 in 2021, as of May 25, 2021.
