Area athletes compete at state track championships

WESTERVILLE — A pair of area athletes just missed out on a spot in the championship finals on Friday at the Division III state track and field championships held at Westerville North High School. Competing in the 300-meter hurdles, Western Reserve junior Jacob Jarrett ran the event in 41.01 seconds, which was good for 10th place. The top eight advanced to Saturday's finals, and Jarrett missed a qualifying spot in the finals by just .16 seconds. He was also 15th in the 110 hurdles in 16.65 seconds. In the 400 dash, South Central junior Trey Beverly was 11th in 51.36 seconds, missing out on the finals run by just .59 seconds. Also on Friday, South Central freshman Grace Lamoreaux was 16th in the 100 hurdles in 16.59 seconds, while senior Mason Kiesel was 16th in the shot put at 47 feet. At the Div. I site at Hilliard Darby High School, Norwalk junior Mason Hainline was 17th in 51.96 seconds in the 400. At the Div. II site at Pickerington North High School, Willard's 4x800-meter relay team of Layla Dials, Mckenna Stephens, Lindsay Vogel and Destiny Rose placed 16th in 10:03.01. Edison's Caleb Bell was 17th in the 400 dash prelims in 52.61 seconds. Below is today's schedule of events for area athletes at the Div. II and Div.
