Full speed ahead for Huron County Fair

NORWALK — We're back! The Huron County Fair will back in business this year after a scaled-down version in 2020 due to the pandemic. Last year was limited to the junior fair with a limited number of people in the stands. But this year all restrictions are off and fair president Bob Morgan is ready to go. The fair is scheduled Aug. 16 to 21. "We had a meeting and decided we were going to do it and see how far we could go," Morgan said. "A couple of days later he (Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine) came out and said everything comes off June 2." With no restrictions Morgan said the fair will have "everything" in 2021. Last year, needless to say, was tough. "Tough? That was an understatement," Morgan said. "It was bad for everybody last year. It wasn't good. But we made the best of what we could do. The kids got to show their projects and we had the sale." There was some positive news. "The thing is we were in pretty good financial shape," Morgan said. "The governor is giving all of the fairs $50,000 again this year. If they didn't a lot of fairs would really have been hurt. "Everybody who had a junior fair last year got $50,000. Last year we basically put everything together in 30 days. It was tough but it worked out." Here is the grandstand lineup this year: Monday night — Pony pull. Tuesday night — Christian Rock band "Big Daddy Weave." Wednesday — OSTPA Tractor pull Thursday — Motocross Friday — Rough Truck Saturday — Demo Derby. "We're trying something different with the Christian rock band," Morgan said. "We didn't know it we were going to have it so we lost the cheerleading competition." For Morgan, who first was elected to the fair board in 1986, pandemic or not the work never ended. "It is a year-round things," he said. "It is a constant thing. It is just a good feeling we are at the end of this ... I hope we are at the end of it. We are going to go for it and make it work. We hope everybody comes out and enjoys it."
