Strawberry Festival set to return

NORWALK — Norwalk's annual Strawberry Festival is back this year for a one-day event this Saturday. The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. in uptown Norwalk. West Main Street will be closed from Case Street to U.S. 250 and food trucks will be scattered throughout. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs for the evening, as tables and seating will not be provided. The day will begin with announcing the winners of the Berry Cute Baby Contest, followed by muffins & mimosas at the old Norwalk theatre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be a slime station in front of the Gardner-Hipp building for children to make their own slime. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a roaming magician, folk-rock duo Josh Ott and Bill Cummings will perform in Pohl's Park and K96/WLKR will be broadcasting live from the festival. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be fingerpainting at 24 W. Main St. and from noon to 3 p.m., a balloon twister will be in front of Insurance Services. The beer tent will open at noon and will close at 10 p.m. Due to the city's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, folks can grab a beer and venture within the designated area. Shops downtown will be open for visitors throughout the event. From noon until 5 p.m., the Huron County Humane Society will be hosting bingo at 15 W. Main St. with cash prizes. Space is limited to 72 guests and unvaccinated individuals have to wear a mask. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, pull tabs and early bird games. The festival will also have meet and greets with Marvel superheroes and Disney princesses. Captain America will be in front of Livingston Chiropractic from noon to 1 p.m. Cinderella will follow from 1 to 2, then Spiderman from 2 to 3 and Belle will be there from 3 to 4. Dustin Plue will perform from 1 to 3 in front of the Norwalk Theatre, followed by Rhythm 'n Rhyme Barbershop Quartet from 3 to 5. Tony Schaffer will perform from 1 to 3 at Pohl's Park with County Line Band following from 3 to 5. From 2 to 4, a roaming magician will be performing. Miss Maple City Teen will be announced from 2 to 2:15 in the Suhr Family Park gazebo. At Suhr Park gazebo, Jugz & Thugz will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 followed by local band, the Real McCoys from 8 to 10. The McCoys' band is named after its drummer Shad's father, Randy McCoy. Randy passed away this past month, and the band would like to do this show in tribute to him.
