NMS sets two program records at SBC Lake championships

The Norwalk Middle School track and field teams competed in the SBC championships on Saturday at Tru Lay Stadium in Port Clinton. The girls team finished fifth place and the boys team was sixth."We definitely had an interesting season this year and are very proud of all the students who came out to run for us this spring," NMS head coach Stephanie Pope said. "We were thrilled to end the season with two school records being broken on the boys side, and we are already looking forward to next season."For the NMS girls, Xavia Immel won the 800-meter run in 2:36.34, and her sister, Zurina, was in second place in 2:37.93. The 4x200 relay team of Mya Prochnow, Lauren Pechauer, Isabel Ott and Carly Wilson placed third in 2:03.88, while the 4x400 relay of Zurina Immel, Sammi Chappell, Kayli Bergman and Xavia Immel also placed third in 4:42.24.Earning fifth place was the 4x100 relay team of Alexys Daniels, Carly Wilson, Kaylee Houghtlen and Abby Koenig in a time of 58.83 seconds, while Koenig was seventh in the 200 hurdles (35.10).In Thursday's action held at Clyde, Zuri Immel won the 1600 run in 5:49, while Bergman was eighth in 6:30. Xavia Immel was fifth in the high jump (4-feet-4) and Sydney Moehlman was sixth at 4-feet-2. Gracie Weigel was fifth in the discus throw (68 feet) and Kaylen Pfeiffer was seventh (67-feet-1). Pfeiffer was also eighth in the shot put (26-feet-11.5).For the boys, Casey Kromer was second in the 800 run, setting a new school record time of 2:13.51 in the process. He was also part of a school record run in the 4x400, as he was the anchor after Aiden Reeder, Antwaine Porter and Elliot Gahring. The team placed second in 3:54.39.Also on Saturday, Reeder was third in the 400 (57.76) and seventh in the 200 (26.57), Porter was fourth in the 100 (12.44) and Gahring was sixth in the 200 (26.56). The 4x200 relay team of Ben Snyder, Gavin Lepley, Cory Stewart and Luke Metcalf also placed sixth in 1:56.09. In Thursday's action held at Clyde, Kromer was second in the 1600 in 4:59 and Sam Konik was seventh (5:39). Porter was seventh in the long jump (14-feet-7.75).
