FC SOFTBALL: St. Paul earns road win over Trojans

GREENWICH — The St. Paul softball team scored five runs in the top of the first and held off a late rally from host South Central to earn a two-day split with the Trojans on Wednesday in a Firelands Conference game. St. Paul got back to .500 at 12-12 overall and 6-6 in the FC. The Trojans, who won Tuesday's game, 15-8, in Norwalk, fell to 7-11 and 5-6. Marlaina Sowers hit a home run and had three RBIs to pace St. Paul, while Ava Caizzo was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Sammy Lippert was 3 for 5 and scored a run. Also for St. Paul, Presley Stang tripled and drove in two runs, Josalyn Vazquez singled with two RBIs, and Elena Penner singled and drove in a run. In the circle, Morgan Baxter allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts. For South Central, Liz Music was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Kyrstin Hamons homered and drove in two runs, and Kaylee Richards doubled and had two RBIs. Kailee Beaver was 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI, while Maddy Prater was also 2 for 5. Prater took the loss in the circle, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts. Emily Scheid was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Monroeville, which also got two hits and two RBIs from Grace Tonelli. Brooklyn Schaffer was 2 for 4 with a double, and Adelynn Kradlak was 2 for 3, while Lydia Landoll singled and drove in two. Payton Scheid went the first four innings in the circle for the win. She didn't allow a run on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Camryn Hurst pitched the final three innings and allowed one run on three hits.
