PREP: Norwalk tennis picks up Lake win at Perkins

PERKINS TWP. — The Norwalk tennis team improved to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the SBC Lake Division with Tuesday's road win over host Perkins. The Truckers claimed a 3-1 win, as the No. 2 singles match between Bryan Sommers and TJ Blue did not finish because of the weather, and the match outcome already decided. Sommers won the first set for the Truckers, 6-1, and Blue was leading 4-3 in the second set. At first singles for Norwalk, Carson Colahan defeated Ian Hemphill (6-2, 6-0), while Perkins (7-6, 5-3) got its lone win at third singles when Mike Ingram defeated Ethan Brown (6-2, 6-1). The No. 1 doubles team of Dylan Peaco and Ashton Coe defeated Tim Gray and Jaron Ninke (6-1, 6-0). The second doubles team of Braden Lloyd and Josh Newhouse earned the third win for the Truckers, as they beat Timmy Wensink and Lucas Gray (6-2, 6-1). Norwalk is at Clyde on Wednesday and hosts Vermilion on Thursday to wrap up league play. The Division II sectional tournament will begin on May 13 at Port Clinton. Port Clinton 4, Willard 1 PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes claimed a win at first doubles in Monday's SBC Bay Division loss to the Redskins (13-4, 10-1). At first singles, Aaron Stephens fell to Elliot Auxter (6-0, 6-1), while Cam Robinson lost in three sets to Port Clinton's Noah Shaw (4-6, 6-2, 6-0) at second singles. Jair Flores lost to Owen Auxter at third singles (6-0, 6-1). The first doubles team of Masyn Johnson and Grace Hall won for Willard, defeating Patrick Huskey and Grant Arnold (6-2, 6-2). At second singles, Grace Rothhaar and Rojelo Lopez fell to Claire Snyder and Averie Webb in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-4). TRACK AND FIELD Edison girls third at Erie Co. Invite CASTALIA — The Charger girls scored 102.5 points to finish third behind host Margaretta and Perkins on Tuesday at the seven-team Erie County Invitational at Margaretta High School. Finishing in first place included the 4x800-meter girls relay of Peyton Facemire, Haley Chaput, Paige Schaefer and Abby Lesniak in 10:19.66. Lesniak won the 800 run in a meet record of 2:20.56, toppling the old mark that had stood for 12 years. Rachel Klepper was second in the 300 hurdles (49.41), while Torri Keyser was third in the 300 hurdles (50.87) and the high jump (five feet). Also finishing third was Madison Corapi in the shot put (32-feet-3.5) and discus (107-feet-10, Facemire in the 1600 (5:48.46) and Chaput in the 3200 (12:42.02. The Edison boys finished in fourth place, led by a pair of first-place finishers in Cole Weilnau in the 800 (2:04.23) and Dylan O'Dell in the high jump (6-feet-2). Garrett Scott was second in the 110 hurdles (15.93) and the 300 hurdles (40.95), and Caleb Bell was second in the 400 (51.93). Jacob Stoll was third in the 100 dash (12.0).
